Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – The University of Alaska is hosting a mariculture conference in Juneau from April 12 to the 14.
University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Dr. Karen Carey tells News of the North that they are really working hard on creating mariculture opportunities in the region. “I know that Governor Dunleavy and University of Alaska President Pat Pitney are very, very interested in what we can do here in Southeast to encourage more mariculture.”
The conference will bring together mariculture stakeholders, including practitioners, regulators, policymakers, scientists, and others from Alaska. “This conference is going to be really interesting because it’s going to be people who do the processing. It’s going to be on research and it’s going to be on the industry. So we’re going to have three days of different panels talking about the areas that are important for Southeast related to mariculture.”
The conference is scheduled to take place at Centennial Hall. “We’re hoping to get a great turnout. We were going to have it in February, but we moved it into April so hopefully, we can do it in person.
The conference is open to all. Proof of vaccination is required at registration and prior to entering the conference.
The cost is $150. For additional details and to register go to jedc.org/mariculture
The Juneau Economic Development Council and the Southeast Conference are assisting the university in staging the event.
