Elder law is a legal practice that deals with the rights and needs of older people and individuals with special needs.  It covers a wide range of issues such as healthcare, estate planning, public benefits, asset protections, guardianships, and long-term care.  Below you will find a selection of articles touching on elder law topics.

 

Supporting the Rights of Alaskan Elders and the Disabled

Several agencies within the State of Alaska support disability rights.  Below are a few resources:

ADA Compliance Program is a statewide program that oversees that governmental agencies remain in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator’s Office (SADACO). 

Alaska Adult Protective Services (APS) helps to prevent or stop harm to vulnerable adults.  Vulnerable adults are those individuals who cannot protect themselves due to age, illness, or disability. 

Alaska Commission on Aging (ACoA) is the advisory board to the Alaska Govenor and State representatives regarding the interest of seniors.
