Directory Resources: Different Options to Meet Your Needs
Finding resources in any community takes time, energy, and often creativity. Under the “Elder Resources” tab on this website there is a Service Provider Directory for the Southeast Region of Alaska that is organized by service and locations to include programs and agency supports. Several communities and agencies have worked to develop directories of resources or guides to help connect individuals to programs that are organized in several different ways. Some of these directories are extensive with lengthy explanations of services, have online or phone-in support, and others are just agency contact information. Depending on your resource needs one may fit better for you than another.
Navigational Tip: Lists of local businesses are often available through the Chamber of Commerence in each community, on City websites, or social media links.
Statewide:
Alaska 211 Is a program developed by the United Way that offers a directory of services available on-line or by phone support that provides resources for a variety of needs including basic needs like shelter, food and utilities as well as health, mental health, and other social services programs throughout Alaska. The United Way has developed the 211 system throughout the United States and Canada, so if you have questions about resources in another part of the country you can call and request to be connected to a specific area to gain information about resources outside your area.
Older Persons Action Group, INC (OPAG) produces a Directory for Older Alaskans, a spiral bound guidebook to senior services that are available throughout Alaska per Region. The book includes comprehensive listings of state agencies and programs with contact information and program explanations. For purchase or other information, call OPAG at 276-1059 in Anchorage or toll-free statewide at 1-800-478-1059.
