The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an independent organization within the IRS that helps taxpayers and protects taxpayers’ rights.  TAS provides a tax advocate for those who are: experiencing a financial hardship; have experience a delay of more than 30 days to resolve a tax account problem; or have not received a response or resolution to the problem or inquiry by the date promised by the IRS.  Assistance is free of charge, confidential and tailored to meet each business or individual taxpayer’s needs.
