Think your team has what it takes? Bond with co-workers, family, neighbors and friends at this year’s Maritime Festival Tug of War Contest. Besides the huge trophy and bragging rights for a year, each team member from the first place team will receive a $50 gift card from our generous supporters at Petro One, Airport Juneau! To register a team, email Kirstie or visit the JEDC booth on the day of the festival by 2:00 pm.
The Tug of War will begin on May 3rd on the Seawalk, at 3:00 pm!!
Juneau Maritime Festival Tug of War Rules:
- Teams may have up to 8 members and no less than 6 members; each team must include 2 members of the opposite sex, and no members under the age of 16.
- Teams may utilize substitutions for tactical reasons or in the event of injury. ONE substitution is allowed before each pull.
- Teams must start holding the rope and facing the centerline, though one member may act as anchor. The lead member of each team must start with their front foot on their team’s start line 10 feet from the center line.
- Teams must continue to pull throughout the match, no lying down or locking your elbow under your knee.
- A double elimination bracket will be followed. This means teams must lose twice to be eliminated from the competition. For scheduling purposes, allow approximately 2 minutes per pull.
- There is a red mark made in the middle of the rope. This red mark on the rope needs to be at a perpendicular angle to the exact center point on the ground, before the commencement of the game. A white mark is made exactly 10 feet from the red mark on either side of the rope. The game is won when either side with this white mark crosses the center point.
