“…participate in advocacy and outreach to build public awareness and support…”

In 2009, STEM AK staff began actively working with educators, University of Alaska teacher preparation programs, the Alaska Dept. of Education, and other non-profits to develop a strategy to advance STEM in Alaska. A White Paper, “STEM and Alaska’s Economy” was commissioned, a series of telephone meetings and one in-person workshop ensued. The goal has been to elevate the importance of STEM in the State and build a network of advocates to advance STEM, including educators, policy leaders, and the business sector. Overall, the work has begun, but there remains much to do, with a key priority to involve business and industry voices.
